The Revillon House was founded in 1839 by the Frenchman Louis-Victor Revillon. The real name of the brand’s founder is Louis Victor d’Aprevel. And he borrowed the pseudonym Revillon from his father. Monsieur d’Aprevel Sr. received this nickname during the Great French Revolution. He started the trading house with the design and sewing of fur coats and hats from valuable furs. The company, designed for wealthy clients, flourished. And in 1869, it opened a boutique in London, and soon overseas, in New York.
The Revilon fur house is also known for being the first to sell fur coats from unusual animals, such as sea lions.
In 1930, the company launched its own perfume line. The first Revillon fragrance, Carnet de Bal, was very well received by the public. This marked the beginning of the brand’s rich perfume history.
A unique production facility, the Revillon brand, was established in Paris in the late 1970s, specializing in the manufacture of various metal accessories and jewelry. The range included medallions, buckles, powder boxes, pocket mirrors, cigarette cases, combs, watch chains, buttons, cufflinks, bracelets, boxes, tie clips, and costume jewelry. Revillon was registered in the United States in 1987, and before that, since 1982, it had been owned by the Belgian brand Cora.
It should be noted that costume jewelry with the “R” or “Revillon” logo, which was produced for only about a decade, is now an exclusive item for vintage jewelry collectors, as production ceased in the late 1990s.
