In 1966, inspired by the image of Douglas Fairnbecks, Ralph proposed to produce a new, wider model of a tie, and at the age of 26 he opened his own tie company.
In 1967, Ralph opened his first store and began selling ties under the Polo brand – the company’s logo was the image of a player riding a horse.

In 1970, his collection of menswear was awarded the first American Fashion Critics Award.
In 1974 Lauren was commissioned by Paramount Pictures to design costumes for The Great Gatsby. 1978 was marked by the Western wear collection, inspired by the images of the Wild West.

In 1981, Ralph Lauren was among the first recipients of the American Council of Fashion Designers Award – subsequently he was awarded by the council six more times for collections of both women’s and men’s clothing.

Ralph Lauren, along with clothing, produced bags, belts, accessories, high quality jewelry, horses and polo attributes became a hallmark of many jewelry.
In 2007, the brand has about 300 stores worldwide.
