Can a wristwatch be your companion? Yes, if it is a Mido product: the company has declared its goal to produce watches that have all the qualities of a good friend. They have individuality, they are always there when you need them, and you are always glad to see them. And with a Mido watch, you are ready to spend your whole life. And these are not just words: the company has at its disposal all those intellectual and material resources that allowed it to worthily implement such an ambitious plan. So today, Mido products are recognized in more than fifty countries located in different corners of our planet.

The history of the company goes back a little less than a century: the company has existed since 1918. Its founder Georges Schaeren gave his brainchild the name Mido, which in Spanish means “I measure”. Since its inception, the company has set a course for revolutionary technologies and has managed to stick to this path to this day.

The most famous innovation from Mido is the Aquadura sealed system, which at the time was a breakthrough on a global scale. This invention provides the watch with excellent water-resistant properties, which are maintained even if the crown is not screwed tightly. This result is achieved thanks to a special cork element. Aquadura technology was first used in the creation of the Multifort watch. This model became the first watch in which water resistance and the ability to withstand shocks were combined with automatic winding and anti-magnetic properties – it is no coincidence that the Multifort was a sales leader for two decades.
Aquadura technology marked the beginning of a series of revolutionary discoveries, the authorship of which belongs to Mido. The invention that followed in 1954 – the Powerwind system – became a worthy continuation. This is a special watch winding technology that increased reliability and power reserve due to a reduction in the set of parts: if previously 16 were needed, now seven are enough.

Five years later, the company released a whole family of monocoque watches, which no one had produced before Mido. Their distinctive feature is the use of a cast case, which does not allow moisture to enter the mechanism through the back cover. This collection, rightfully named Ocean Star, also used Aquadura technology. Under the Mido brand, miniature watches with automatic winding for women were first mass-produced; in the 70s, the company was at the forefront of developing electronic watches. It was Mido that released the first non-electronic watch capable of determining the time zone (the Worldtimer family). And the Bodyguard watch can replace a bodyguard: in case of danger, it emits a sound of more than 100 decibels.

What does Mido offer watch lovers today?
In 2008, the company created the Belluna collection, which is designed to optimally combine price and quality: traditional Swiss reliability is advantageously combined with a spectacular design inspired by the Art Deco style, which stands out beyond time.
Among the company’s latest developments is the All Dial collection, presented in 2002. It was based on the image of the Roman Colosseum. If the main goal of the architects during the construction of the Colosseum was to ensure maximum visibility of the stage, then for the creators of All Dial, the main task was to make it so that you only need one quick glance at the dial to determine what time it is.

The Baroncelli collection has been in demand since 1976. Given that the case is 6 mm thick, these are the thinnest watches from Mido. As the creators note, Baroncelli will look as modern in two decades as it does today. The same principle applies to the Commander collection, popular since 1959, and the Multifort collection. The Ocean Star Captain family was presented at the world-class watch exhibition BaselWorld in 2005, it is characterized by perfect water resistance due to Aquadura technology. Sports models of the same type are included in the Ocean Star Sport collection.
Mido creates watches that stand beyond fashion trends. The secret of the company’s success is that it focuses not on fickle fashion, but on functionality and style.
