For more than 50 years, Luz Camino, a Spanish jewelry designer, the first woman in Spain to receive the title of “Master of Jewelry,” has been creating amazing and beautiful jewelry. Camino began her career in 1973, mastering both traditional and modern jewelry techniques. She is one of the few jewelers who uses the technique of stained glass enamel (pliquée-a-jour) and such unusual materials as resin and enamel to set gemstones. Her pieces are designed to be either one of a kind or part of a limited edition.
Luz Camino cites Rene Lalique and Faberge as the jewelers who have had the greatest influence on her work. But she tries to follow her own path.
The Bouquet of Flowers brooch is one of the most famous works of Luz Camino, diamonds, amethysts, aquamarines, topazes, peridots.
Here’s what Luz Camino says about her work: “I did my job to the best of my ability – always for many years. And I never saw it only as a business. I approached this mainly from an artistic point of view. I had ideas, I wanted to recreate them and I did… When you create a one-of-a-kind piece, you only need to find one person in the world who will appreciate and understand it. Painters or sculptors have galleries where they can show and sell their work, but in stores, jewelry is approached primarily from a commercial point of view. So to be in that world and always show something personal, outside of trends, and do it consistently – that, I think, has helped me gain recognition.”

Luz Camino is inspired not only by natural motifs and traditions of Spanish culture, but sometimes by completely unexpected, everyday things. In her latest collection, Pencil Shavings, Luz Camino proves that the humble pencil shavings can become a piece of art. “I love the beauty of imperfection,” Luz says.
