Kay Denning’s History
Kay Denning’s active creative period fell on the 1960s and 1970s, when she lived and worked in Locust Valley (New York State). In 1964, her contribution was marked by the creation of a large-scale installation – a wall of enameled copper elements for the New York World’s Fair, held in Flushing Meadows.

Collaboration with the famous art house Bovano (Chester, Connecticut) became a significant stage in her career. Since 1952, Bovano has specialized in glass and metal sculpture, and in the 1960s, Denning contracted with her to produce jewelry.

A characteristic feature of Kay Denning’s work was the use of so-called “frit drops” – small pieces of glass that enamel artists compare to cookies. These elements of color and shape created contrasting accents on plain surfaces or were used in the relief technique to add texture to monochrome pieces. In addition, Denning experimented with geometric patterns in enamel – a more rigorous and less common variation of her style.
